Running AI Boost with another SEO extension
Joomla lets any number of extensions write into the same page. When two of them manage the same signal — the canonical link, the page title, the Open Graph tags, the sitemap — the page ends up with duplicates, or with whichever extension ran last quietly overruling the other. AI Boost detects the best-known cases and lets you decide, rather than deciding for you.
You will find this in the Joomla administrator under AI Boost → Output Conflicts. Nothing there disables another extension for you; it only changes what AI Boost itself emits.
How AI Boost decides who wins
One setting governs the whole site, and you pick one of three cards:
- AI Boost takes over — AI Boost emits its full output. Switch the overlapping feature off in the other extension, or you will get both.
- Defer to others — AI Boost steps aside for any tag another tool already emits, and only fills the gaps. This is the safe choice while you are still deciding.
- Custom (Pro) — decide output by output which tool owns it.
The six output types you can steer individually are:
- Schema (JSON-LD)
- Open Graph / social meta
- XML sitemap
- Analytics (GA4 / GTM / Pixel)
- Canonical link
- Page titles & meta description
Three of those — the canonical link, page titles and the sitemap — replace a value rather than add a tag next to it. They keep working unless you explicitly hand them to the other extension, so the safe global default never silently switches them off.
If a page looks like AI Boost is doing nothing, check this screen first. “Defer to others” means AI Boost stepped aside on purpose — that is the setting working, not a fault.
Extensions AI Boost detects
Detection reads Joomla’s extension table and only counts extensions that are installed and enabled — a disabled extension cannot conflict, so AI Boost stays quiet about it.
4SEO
What overlaps: 4SEO manages page titles, meta descriptions, canonical links and Open Graph tags — the same four signals AI Boost manages. Run both at full strength and the page carries duplicate tags, and the two canonical URLs can disagree, which is the one duplicate a search engine cannot resolve for you.
What AI Boost does: it flags this as a critical conflict and links you straight to Joomla’s plugin manager. It never disables 4SEO for you.
What to choose: pick one owner for titles, canonical and Open Graph. If you want AI Boost to lead, switch those features off in 4SEO and set AI Boost takes over. If you would rather keep 4SEO in charge of them, set Defer to others — AI Boost then adds only what 4SEO does not emit, such as its Schema.org output and AI-search signals.
Sh404SEF
What overlaps: Sh404SEF is primarily a URL router, but it also writes canonical links, page titles and meta descriptions. Those three are the collision points.
What AI Boost does: it flags the overlap and points at the plugin manager so you can see the Sh404SEF settings involved.
What to choose: keep Sh404SEF for routing — AI Boost does not do URL rewriting and will not fight it. Then decide who writes the canonical link and the titles. Turning off the meta and canonical features inside Sh404SEF and letting AI Boost take over is the tidiest split; deferring works too if you have already tuned Sh404SEF.
JoomSEF / OpenSEF
What overlaps: the JoomSEF family of SEF routers can generate their own canonical URLs and meta tags alongside the routing they were installed for.
What AI Boost does: it raises a warning rather than a critical alert, because the overlap depends on which of those features you have switched on.
What to choose: as with Sh404SEF, let the router route. If its meta and canonical features are on, choose one owner for them. If you are unsure, leave AI Boost on Defer to others and view the page source: the tags AI Boost emits sit inside a clearly marked AI Boost block, so you can see exactly which extension produced what.
Admin Tools
What overlaps: Akeeba Admin Tools can write your robots.txt, and so can AI Boost. Only one of them should. Whichever writes last wins, and the other set of rules disappears.
What AI Boost does: it raises this only when AI Boost is itself set to manage robots.txt. If you have that switched off, Admin Tools owning the file is perfectly fine and AI Boost says nothing.
What to choose: pick one owner. If you keep Admin Tools in charge, switch AI Boost’s robots.txt management off in the Crawlers & Robots tab. If you want AI Boost to manage it, turn the equivalent feature off in Admin Tools. Either way, if Admin Tools’ .htaccess hardening is on, allow sitemap.xml and llms.txt so those files stay reachable. OSMap / Xmap
What overlaps: OSMap and Xmap generate an XML sitemap, and so does AI Boost. The two can coexist — they are usually served at different addresses — but if their routing overlaps you can end up submitting the same pages twice under different URLs.
What AI Boost does: it raises a warning and links to the extension manager, so you can see what is installed.
What to choose: submit one sitemap to Search Console, not two. If you keep OSMap, hand the sitemap to it — AI Boost’s other output is unaffected. If you keep AI Boost’s sitemap, it is served at /sitemap.xml and already covers the content types you select.
Joomla’s own Open Graph tags
Not an extension, but the same problem: Joomla can emit its own og:title and og:description from Global Configuration → Metadata Settings. If that is on while AI Boost’s social output is on, the page carries both. AI Boost flags it and links you to the setting. Turn one of the two off.
